New York reports Commander Robert E Peary will publish his account of reaching the north pole within twenty four hours He and Dr Frederick A Cook each claim pole discovery and the world watches as correspondence highlights the race between the two explorers with wives and families spending summer on the Maine coast in a shared coincidence.
The article surveys April to September events as Peary and Cook race to verify the pole discovery. It notes Peary's relief ship Jeanie and Roosevelt, possible simultaneous welcomes, and debates over who first reached the pole. Experts doubt discrediting either explorer and credit perseverance and support funding.
