More witnesses testify for Roosevelts libel suit

United Press reports in Marquette Michigan May 29 that witnesses testified Roosevelt drank little or none on campaigns and trips. C W Thompson, a Washington correspondent, said Roosevelt appeared sober and rarely drank champagne. Ohio coal man Andrew Abele and others corroborated no liquor use, while Roosevelt cousins and aides gave mixed accounts.

Safety First Show At Opera House Delights Audience

Dynamite Explosion Kills Five at French Granite Plant

In Perpigna France on May 29 a blast of two tons of nitrostycerine leveled the granite plant, creating a large crater. Five bodies were recovered and many more are reported missing.

Reports from Queenstown say the Am erican liner Haverford, bound for Philadelphia from Liverpool, was heading toward Daunt Rock in heavy fog and tugs to assist. Nine hundred aboard, company officials say all passengers are being taken off. the ship is believed doomed.
