James O Neill 32 of Princeton Indiana a coal miner leaped into an empty coal gondola on a moving train at Pinckneyville Illinois. The gondola’s bottom dropped and he slid to the tracks with the train passing over his legs. He is dying. He sought work in southern Illinois mines.
Will de Leon and Pete Wheeler, both deer friends from Hickman Kentucky, were turkey hunting by surprise. De Leon mimicked a turkey call drawing Wheeler’s fire. Wheeler, thinking a wild turkey was present, shot into the brush mortally wounding De Leon within minutes.
Alexandria May 28 Mrs W W Phelps living on a local farm fractured her arm while dreaming. In a highly nervous state a muscle spasm caused the fracture. Doctors note such accidents are rare but have several cases on record.
