Mexico City report from May 8 states Huerta protests American troop landings at Vera Cruz and armament, while 20 000 Mexican troops face General Funston. Mediation response awaits, four transports ready, Tampico oil workers warned of peril, and Consul Silliman's fate unsettled amid rumors.
The ex ecutive committee of the United Mine Workers of America decided against a general strike as a protest against conditions in Colorado coal fields. They urged miners in other states to remain at work to aid allies. The report remains unconfirmed. Refugees: six hundred Americans arrived at Puerta Mexico on a refugee train from Mexico City. A Private Parks, an orderly of Colonel Taggart, is missing and believed captured or possibly distressed by heat. Arbor Day proposal: Arkansas women push for an annual Arbor Day observance with Governor and State Superintendent of Public Instruction to designate a date. Bird Day recently observed statewide. Some suggest aligning Bird and Arbor Day with similar states’ practices.
Mayor Tom E Taylor authorized a joint Council and Board of Health proclamation for Brighten Up Day to organize a city wide cleanup. A. P. Eason Jerome Reynolds and HH Towler were named to arrange details. Citizens urged to participate Tuesday and extend efforts until completed.
In Clarksville Arkansas on May 1 Mary Dheriee nine and Fran Spankee sixteen were struck by a westbound Iron Moon passenger train as they crossed a trestle near Big Spada Creek. The Spankee girl is not expected to survive. the Oberlee girl is seriously bruised with possible internal injuries and a broken leg. Both were taken to the Oberlee residence for care.

Germany seeks substitutes as American cedar and cypress forests dwindle, raising worry over wood scarcity for pencil making and also affecting American hickory used in wheels and tools.
