Woman killed saving her baby in New Haven crash

Mrs. Angelo Filante of North Haven died after being struck as she dashed into the street to shield her infant. Henry Moran of Yonkers, driver of the car from Boston to New York, turned himself in to police and was later released pending official verdict. Moran traveled with his wife two children a brother in law and a chauffeur.

Train Becomes Lifeline As Northwest Flood Swamps Pattonsburg

Missouri flood reports from Pattonsburg show entire town under five feet of water. A relief train was sent with boats from Lake Contrary to aid drowning and stranded residents as Big Creek floodwaters devastate the area. St. Joseph reports fifteen injuries from a wreck while lines like Great Western, Burlington and Rock Island suffer washouts. Kansas City asks for boats and provisions to assist the flood zone.

Northwestern Missouri endures severe flooding as Grand River and streams rise. Arthur Fiske, agent for the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul railroad, is marooned in Gault station without food since Monday evening. Current prevents rescue boats. box cars swept away. Train Collision Injures Fifteen at Ferguson Station

A heavy freight train struck the rear of the Wabash accommodation at Ferguson station at 8:30 am. Fifteen people were injured as passengers fled the rushing train and tumbled down a 25 foot embankment. T. S. Davis of Moberly is listed as seriously hurt. others include Mrs. Caroline Talleur and Rev. W. J. Couch among several residents from St. Louis and East St. Louis.

Prince Eulenburg Collapses During Trial In Berlin

Berlin reports the trial of Prince Philip Von Eulenberg opens with telegraphic reports to the Kaiser Kiel and a special stenographer relay. The 68 year old prince collapses in court after hours of testimony and is removed to his castle, with the judge adjourning.

Attempted assassination of priest in Burlington

Rev. Joseph F. Gillis of St Marys Cathedral was shot at while en route to celebrate mass at St Marys Academy. Police arrested artist Beat rice Thompson, 40, on charges of assault with intent to kill. The bullet pierced his umbrella. Thompson reportedly harbors a fanatical aversion to Catholicism.

Fayetteville hosts the Chautauqua Musical Festival beginning July 9 1909. Notable figures include Bonamirn Kryi and eight grand opera singers with two major concerts on July 18.
