Night riders burn barn of John Bell Payton in southwest county

After three months of quiet the nightriders resumed activity last night and burned John Bell Payton’s barn near Evansville. Payton urged Sheriff Caudle to come with bloodhounds and cover expenses. Sheriff and Deputy Holcomb traveled 35 miles from Fayetteville, unsure if Payton was tied to any faction. Insurance polies have been cancelled in the area, signaling total loss. Authorities expect updates by evening or tomorrow morning.

George Alexander Holds Los Angeles Mayor Seat In Municipal Vote

Complete returns from 15 of 21 precincts show George Alexander the incumbent of the Good Government League leading for mayor with 83 973 votes. Socialist George Harriman has 52 293. Prohibition defeated 31 691 to 87 244. Board of education results include Joseph Scott, allied with McNamara defense, finishing last and now president of the board. Two Wilmington precincts still missing. Boy Scouts urged to attend a meeting December 6.

Good Roads Meeting at Orpheum Promises Educational Demo

A good roads meeting occurs at 1 p m on Friday Dec 15 at the Orpheum theatre in this city. H C Wells will present an illustrated lecture with stereopticon views and moving pictures showing government road improvements and the movement's meaning. Admission is free.
