Frisco Railroad Hit With Three Suits Over Orders

Three suits filed by the State of Arkansas claim the Frisco railroad refused to comply with Arkansas Railroad Commission orders. Suit dates and details allege violations of Order 1635 requiring switching privileges, Order 3085 mandating joint privileges with K C and M Railway, and Order 3091 about operating a spur to Summers Arkansas.

Regulars Out on a Lark Are Arrested

Three Fort Logan H Roots infantrymen during the State Guard Encampment were arrested in Argenta for disturbing the peace. They were fined 25 dollars and costs and 30 days on the county farm. Governor pardon followed after civil authorities sought military transfer. Lawrence Sink Everett Walpole and Pat Gill of Co. L 9th Inf aided by mayor and judge.

Pilot Cowden linked to farmer Spence murder bones found

In Harrison Arkansas on August 21 officers found the missing farmer Spence's bones in a deep gulch five miles from his former home and near the residence of suspect Charles Cowden. Cowden, held on murder charges, now says another man killed Spence and names an alleged killer whose identity remains undisclosed.

New Instructor in E. E. Department

Mr. D. W. Blakeslee is appointed instructor of Electrical Engineering at the State University. A Highland Park College 1909 graduate and an Associate member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, he has 2.5 years at Westinghouse and designed at Mathews Gravity Carrier Co. He has taught mechanical drawing and shop skills and arrives with strong recommendations.

Public pen blamed as disease carrier in Cleveland

Evangelistic Meeting At Central Methodist Church

Mr and Mrs John E Thomas assist Rev Marion Nelson Waldrip in a month long evangelistic meeting at the Central Methodist Church in a Chautauqua tent. Union services of all churches will be held tomorrow evening with Mr Waldrip preaching. The Thomases will lead the music and Mr Thomas will perform as a tenor soloist and saxophonist in the services.

State Banking Department orders more assessments on failed banks

The State Banking Department in Little Rock orders four more 100 percent assessments on stockholders of recently failed banks, bringing total to five. Banks cited include Bank of Commerce and Trust Company Stuttgart Bank of Higden Logan County Bank Magazine and Bank of Huntington. The department aims to enforce strict rules, draft model by-laws and eliminate overdrafts to improve banking stability statewide.

At Fort Logan H Roots annual encampment Captain T R Smith confirms Company B of Fayetteville earns federal pay as the only authorized unit in the Arkansas National Guard. He praises the unit for military training and courtesy while noting top scores by Dick Burgin 49 of 50 in 200 and 400 yard rapid fire and Hamilton with 48.

Farmers discuss co operative methods in county meeting

About twenty five farmers met in Justice of the Peace J R Campbell s office to discuss farm cooperation and advancing farming interests. County demonstrator W H Dyer presided. G S Leavitt of Decatur Georgia addressed filling. A cooperative tile factory for the county may be formed. Dr J T Hight favored such an organization. Leavitt praised Washington County land quality.

Japan's Ultimatum Expires In Tokyo Amid Tense Talks

Secretary of State Bryan relays that the United States will keep hands off in the Japan Germany dispute while hostilities loom. The Japanese ambassador plans a note to Berlin if war breaks out, with timing set to ten o'clock tonight New York time. The note stresses avoidance of partiality and asks for a Far East notification if hostilities extend.

Austrians Routed Amid Drina Fighting

In three days along the River Drina the War Office reports 25,000 Austrian dead, wounded, and prisoners as Austrians are routed. Concurrently Russians active as the War Bureau says the entire Russian army is going on the offensive across eastern Prussia and the Austrian frontier, claiming enemy gains along the line have been reversed.
