Belgian forces battering German flanks at Liege hold the line as French troops prepare to reinforce. King Albert commands cavalry, forts shell advancing Germans, while Belgium claims indomitable resistance and German attempts to seize Liege. British transports land 22,000 troops to support Belgian defense and Namur flank.
Washington officials warn that on a clear night thousands of shooting stars may blaze from the Perseus constellation. If skies stay clear, observers could see glowing streaks and miniature comets every few minutes as meteors pass in lines around the sun.
Stonington marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Stonington with a planned program including parades with military units, speeches by Gov. The Industrial Welfare Commission set a 0 weekly minimum for adult telephone and office staff and 6 cent for under 18 workers, with 6 am to 9 pm limits for youths in telephone and related services. The ruling also covers messenger, mercantile, and parcel delivery workers and enforces hours for those under 18.
