Des Moines reports stock judging at the state fair began with horse judging in the big pavilion led by Prof. Curtiss and prizes awarded. Supt H T Pike led cattle judging in the afternoon while Supt R S Johnston guided swine judging. John J. Hogan father of the late Yale football star James J. Hogan, died at his Torrington home Thursday aged fifty nine. He was a native of Ireland.
