A hurricane of wind and heavy rain swept Kansas western Missouri and northern Oklahoma causing massive damage. One person is dead five injured two possibly fatally, with 200 to 300 houses and barns demolished. Streams burst banks and wires failed across stricken areas.
John Henry Jones of Scranton testifies before the house judiciary committee probing Judge Robert W. Archbald charges. He asserts a $500 note for a Venezuelan timber deal was endorsed by Archbald to aid the promoter, claiming no interest by the judge and noting he later received $260 from a private sale. Williams disputes the record, and further recall is planned as testimony remains tangled.

Washington May 13 The Interstate Commerce Commission ordered western air carriers to implement and maintain for two years from June 13 1912 the feeder cattle and sheep rates defined in its March 18 report. President Katherine Yeager of Greenfield reported 130 chapters in the state with three organized this year. Mrs Huldah Reed of What Cheer showed total receipts 7004 and disbursements 4716. educational fund contribution 1176.
The Iowa Manufacturers' association closed its Sioux City session with a resolution calling a broader workers' compensation law. It should cover all industries, require both employers and workers to fund the scheme, and block mutual benefit organizations within firms. J. A. Gunn of Kellogg was elected president, and Keokuk wins the 1913 convention.
Earl Bronson campaign manager for Woodrow Wilson cites 240 delegates at the Burlington convention and May 16 instructions for New Jersey executive and Champ Clark 270 instructed delegates. In Webster City May 13 Dr E Richardson a member of Iowa state board of health releases an open letter accusing University of Iowa President Bowman of pushing the abolition of chairs of surgery at the Homeopathic College. He says the plan began at the State Homeopathic Association meeting in Des Moines and will continue until the state board of education reverses its stance.

The body of Ernest Danbom of Stanton who lost his wife in the Titanic disaster arrived in Stanton on May 13. Funeral services were held at the family home and at the Lutheran church. He is survived by his mother one sister and five brothers. The bodies of his wife and child, who were drowned with him, were not recovered.
Iowa Grand Army of the Republic officials plan a bill to fund the ex penses for the 160 surviving Gettysburg veterans living in Iowa to travel to the battlefield for the semi centennial anniversary. Scott County Democrats name thirty three delegates to the state convention at Burlington with no instructions, a majority favor Clark.
J T Harrigan announced his resignation as vice president and general manager of the Des Moines Railway company, to take effect July 1. R Hewitt Bag has been named as his successor.
