Local council approves insurance renewals water meter charges and electric rebates as it reviews municipal costs and coal pricing.
A reader details a harsh December and January with record cold, snow and drought conditions, notes wells in the county, a neighbor hitching a mower to cut hay, and plans for breaking land and bringing in settlers. Mentions a gasoline outfit and local commerce, plus a health tonic advertisement sold in Fayette, Iowa.
A Feb 22 show at the Opera House offers entertainment for Washington's Birthday. Proceeds fund the band boys tuition program. Featured acts include vocal solos by Mrs. J D Parker and Miss Ena Hill, readings by Miss Dinita Graf and Mrs. M V Newcomer, a banjo solo by V Cole, and a cornet solo by I Av McLean, with many other acts announced for next week.

The Royal Neighbors held an installation at Woodman hall on Thursday evening February 3 with husbands invited to witness ladies in office. Officers listed include Oracle Mrs J Hill and others, followed by a ceremonial and a fine lunch.
H A Schmidt won multiple prizes with White Created Black Polish birds at the Oelwein poultry show including first on cockerel hen pullet pen and others with high scores mostly above 92. D H Sweet took several top awards on diakenveldera pullets cockerel and pen. Birds had been in the country four years, imported from Holland and Germany.

An Iowa Gazette reprints Col James I Jaquess account of Abraham Lincoln visiting a Springfield church in May 1832. The preacher describes Lincoln listening intently to a sermon on being born again, later visiting the minister’s home for prayer and discussion, and the preacher believing Lincoln was converted to Christianity though he never joined the church.
Public services are held each Sabbath at 10:30 a m and 7:00 p m with class and prayer meetings daily. Epworth League and Junior Leagues meet, and the Kensington group will convene February 16 with a hosted event planned by several members. Revival services continue this week except Saturday evening at the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Congregational J. J. Benton, pastor, announces Sunday worship with morning services at 10 30 and evening preaching at 7 00. Thursday prayer meeting at 7 00. Sunday school at 9 80. Subject next Sunday morning is Religion of the Head with a leaning on Dogmatism versus Christianity.
