Reports include visits from Denver and Durango, church activities, a free show at the new city picture house, a Shiprock fair, and updates on local homes, hotels, and roads.
Copenhagen reports J C Christensen leader of the liberal party begins statewide prohibition agitation. The liberal party previously backed restricting alcohol in public houses and meals, and Christensen now urges total prohibition of intoxicants. Voters in Farmington face a choice to legalize this poison with state regulation or reject it.
The Albuquerque Evening Herald was sold at public auction on the 2nd day of September by its receiver to A B McMilten of Albuquerque acting for a newly organized corporation. The paper will now be known as The Evening Herald and is expected to return to profitability. The paper has historically succeeded in news and policy.
The Santa Fe people assert their city is the oldest in the nation while St Augustine and other contenders dispute the claim. They circulate literature to prove their ancient origin though no conclusive proof exists. Santa Fe appears to be an active center pushing the age argument.
Secretary Bryan defended temperance during a Washington dinner honoring the permanent exposition commission of France. He toasted the French representatives but discovered his glass held champagne and immediately left as the envoys ceased drinking.
Republican leaders in Washington express strong approval of the New York state convention platform and urge the Republican National Committee to act within sixty days after Congress adjourns. The NY plan allows states to choose their delegation methods and bases representation on votes for party candidates in prior elections, backed by Progressive and mainstream Republicans including Root and Lodge.
E. E. Cathcart, successor to M. L. Burrows, announces purchase of the stock of drugs and fixtures of M. L. Burrows known as the Real Drug Store. The new proprietor promises a full line of drugs chemicals sundries and related items and invites public patronage for treatment and satisfaction. He will buy in the best markets and aims for a fair profit margin.
The State Corporation Commission of New Mexico v. the A T & S F Railway and all operators in the state will have a rate hearing in the Federal court room in Santa Fe on November 11 before Judge J C Clements. The case covers class and commodity rates from the Missouri River east to the Atlantic seaboard and from California to the state, affecting 60 000 to 76 000 miles and all points in New Mexico.
