Sudden Death of J. E. McCarty Sr at Allen's Hotel
J. E. McCarty Sr died suddenly January 18 in San Juan County after attending a Masonic Lodge meeting. A Vermonter and longtime rancher, he was 60 and left a wife and four sons. He had previously burned hands in August and had been a prominent Republican and Mason. funeral held January 23.
