Chas. F. McConnell president of Smelter City State Bank of Durango was arrested about 5 p.m. on a charge of receiving deposits while knowing the bank was failing. He posted 3000 bail and was released. Receiver O. F. Broyles reports likely payout to depositors will be under ten percent.
A net increase of 872,961.13 in San Juan County assessed valuations over 1906 is reported with total taxable amount up to 983,351.13 after exemptions. The New Mexico Statehood League says Governor Curry and other leaders will travel to Washington in January to assess statehood options. Abbott ruled in favor of Arizona & Colorado to restrain the Denver & Rio Grande from taking possession of seven right of way tracts in San Juan county pending completion of twenty miles of railroad by the plaintiff along the line in dispute. The matter traces back to earlier rulings and venue changes with extensive testimony. the defendants plan to appeal.
Miss Kate Sanborn and Mr. Edward P. Woods married at noon on Christmas day at the bride's home in Boulder Yalo. The couple, whose courtship began on Miss Sanborns first visit to Farmington, plan to reside in Farmington after January first.
Miss Elizabeth Wightman and Mr BE E Otis were married in a home ceremony Wednesday evening at 7 30 with a large group of friends in attendance. A fine wedding supper followed and guests conveyed many pretty and valuable presents along with heartfelt congratulations.
