The grand jury in Socorro county found no grounds for charges over election frauds. J W Turknett of Artesia was named Eddy County commissioner in district two by Acting Governor J W Raynolds to fill the vacancy caused by the death of George W Wilcox. Wilcox had defeated Turknett for the office in the last election. Mallet, a former United States Chinese inspector, was convicted in Socorro district court for carrying and displaying a six shooter with badge protection, an appeal likely. He reportedly carried the weapon to church and resisted Deputy Sheriff Dreyfus.
Manager D L Meyers of the Pecos Valley and Southeastern Railway reports that for the year ended July 31 1906 the system received 574 carloads of household goods at its stations. From August to October 1906 inclusive 20 immigrant outfit carloads were unloaded along the road in New Mexico, while the same period in 1905 shows 127 carloads, indicating a clear increase.
