Dr Easter preached at the Methodist church on Sunday morning and delivered a lecture on the Holy Land in the evening. He recalled a Palestine trip with 20 churchmen and argued biblical miracles withstand infidel challenges using observed relics and crowd sightlines.
The Methodist church ladies announce a pie and oyster supper in the hall on Thanksgiving evening. All ladies are urged to bring pies. A literary program is likely, and a good social time is expected.
Announcement lists land sales in Lake township near Elgin with several sections and acreages across Lake and nearby townships. A four room house on a quarter section in Section 6, 4 N 9 W is occupied by H A Barker. Full descriptions available at the office.
The jury in the Scott murder case found T. J. Scott guilty, sentencing him to two years in the penitentiary while Anna Scott drew one year in the county jail after a 40 hour deliberation. Attorneys shook hands. the defense plans a new trial and potential appeal.

Located at Yukon F M Gibson who lived east of Elgin has decided to quit farming and with his wife has vented at Yukon Their children are all gone from home and Mr Gibson says he is getting too old to stand the work He and his wife plan retirement His sons James and Roy and a daughter in law Mrs Roy Compton are all in Yukon and will likely feel at home there.

J B Snell of near Fletcher was thrown from a buggy in a runaway just after the wedding. His team reared and ran around the Baptist church with him. The buggy tongue broke and the vehicle struck the ground, flinging him over the dashboard onto his head.
The school team defeated Town 25 to 13 in a Wednesday evening basketball game. Another game is scheduled for Saturday evening with admission set at 5 cents.
The Elgin Methodist Circuit led by Rev. D. L. Hinckley will preach at various appointments on specified Sundays and times. The text lists Beaver Bend Sterling Elgin and Contain View among locations with service times including 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and a 3 p.m. service on the fourth Sundays, but the details are garbled.
District Eighteen notes show G C Crawford visiting Lawton with Mr Clark and the Parker family while Joe Zimmerman visits. Relatives and neighbors travel between Okarehe Lawton Elgin and Safe Hall for visits and farm work continues as Compton completes shelling corn. Rain delays are minor but beneficial for winter wheat.
At noon Wednesday in the presence of JJ Snell and Misa Maud Vaught, Rev. D. L. Hinckley united Thos J Page and Misa Mary E Vaught in marriage. The bride, daughter of W W Vaught previously near Elgin, has many local friends. the groom visits and works at the Elgin Gin and will stay with 3 V Hamilton next year. They will keep house in the Olcott house near the livery barn.
Lawton issued a marriage license Tuesday to Louis D. Studyvin age 21 and Misa Elva Kirklen age 18 both of Elgin though the event had not occurred at print time Dee claims his daylong corn work supports the note. The bride’s father RE Kirklen praises her character while groom’s father FP Studyvin is described as a prosperous young farmer.
Oil well east of town faces delay as crew works to free drill from casing. They attempted to pull the drill with the engine, nearly damaging the derrick, and sent to Bartlesville for a jack to assist. If extraction fails, they will move the derrick a few feet to start a new hole. Henry Bros. have paid up most outstanding notes in Elgin and seek to resume business.
Large turnout at the Geo Stice sale two miles east of Elgin with strong prices. A cow sold for 62 dollars, another for 60. Five shoats at a total of about 800 pounds averaged 100 pounds each, 8 dollars per head. Hens brought 40 cents each. A nine year old gray mare sold for 96 dollars and another for 60. Hay brought 85 cents per bale and kafir 2.50 per 100. A health stove, bought for 1 dollar, two years old, sold for 14.50.
District Superintendent Bus ter of Ft. Worth arrived Saturday morning and presided at the first quarterly conference in the US church at 8 o'clock. Pastor reports show 60 members at Beaver Bend 36 at Elgin and 82 at Sterling. Salary and parsonage rent allotted: Beaver Bend 250 Elgin 150 and parsonage Sterling 176. Committee named to urge moving the parsonage to church lots adjoining. Coffin and Stack house were passengers to Law ton on business.
Elgin High School basketball played Shoe High Friday at 5 p m for a 7 to 5 loss. Four players had never played a game before, yet they learned quickly in their first outing. Lineup included Center Went Forwarde Hagle Wigging Guards E Weber Kitemiller Referee J H Willhite. Attendees listed: J F Gamble R M Young Jackson Misses Chri bel Will Loleinphelee Dott Wolcott Albert John Weber Ruel Wolcott.
The class brings together many singers in a Friday session, with several parents attending to observe progress. Students wrestle with singing in different keys, hoping practice will ease the effort over time.
