Check Versus Cash at Indianola Depot Heist

During noon hours last week a thief pried the depot window at Indiahoma while the Frisco agent was at dinner and stole cash totaling 75 dollars. A 40 dollar check lay with the cash but the robber left the check in the drawer. This shows checks are safer than carrying cash or keeping money on site.

Singing Class Notes Report on Friday Attendance

All 50 members attended Friday evening. There are 34 females and 16 males. Among them 24 sing soprano 13 alto 11 bass 1 tenor and 1 leader. Female voices include 23 soprano and 11 alto. Male voices include 11 bass 2 alto 1 tenor 1 soprano and 1 leader who sings all parts.

Jurymen Fined For Tardiness In District Court

In district court last week Judge Johnson fined two jurors $25 each for failing to appear on time. The court delayed the start by half an hour and the judge said prompt attendance would be strongly enforced.

Comanche County Holds First Better Baby Contest in Lawton

Lawton hosts the inaugural Better Baby contest in the high school on November 28 and 29. County babies up to three years old will be measured and judged by physicians for form rather than looks, with several prizes awarded.

Big jack rabbit breaks back in country road chase

E Stone reports seeing a large jack rabbit dash across a road in Montana country. The animal jumped a two foot ditch and struck the bank, breaking its back. A dog then killed the rabbit near the site of the accident.

Kansas Trip Ends as Stauffer Reports Corn Crop Failure

D F Stauffer returns from seven weeks in Kansas including Lawrence Abilene Wellington Topeka and Kansas City. He reports the corn crop across Kansas as a complete failure. His brother in law Milton House and wife from Abilene joined him home for a visit. Mrs Stauffer and Mrs Hiause are sisters.

No Vetter There in Omaha Police Reply

Sid Davis received a Monday reply from a letter to the Omaha police chief saying they have never located anyone named Vetter in the city. The box holding Vetter’s papers was searched but yielded no addresses or other important information.

Elgin Gin Breaks Daily Cotton Load Record

On Wednesday the Elgin Gin took in 80 loads of cotton and 11 more on Thursday marking the largest single day since opening in Elgin. Two shifts worked around the clock as farmers unloaded onto the ground, prompting calls for more shed space. The large run follows high prices, widespread advertising, and easy cash at local banks.

New Law Eases Jurors and Witnesses Payments

The law allows jurors and witnesses to obtain certificates from the district clerk and cash them with the county treasurer. At period end the treasurer returns the certificates to the clerk who issues one warrant to cover all, saving clerical work and delay.

Jealous Widow Kills Former Lover in Hobart

Mrs Anna Russell aged 17 shot and killed Barney Phinney aged 20 in Hobart last Friday. She fired four shots after threatening to kill him when he refused marriage. He dismissed it as a joke until she drove to his place and carried out the fatal shooting.

Two Soldiers Arrested In Horse Theft Case

Two Fort Sill soldiers were arrested in El Reno last week on charges of stealing a horse and buggy in Lawton. They took the rig to near Chickasha and sold it, receiving ten dollars cash and a due bill for the balance to be paid.

Drilling Resumes Near Sheettwalt in August

A report notes drilling has restarted at the nearby site half a mile from Sheettwalt after a recent check. Officials say operations are in good shape and expect no delays as the well moves toward being mapped in the state records.
