Daylight services set for Sunday at two churches

Services at 10 o'clock with children's day exercises at the Methodist church next Sunday. The Baptist church plans an 11 o'clock service with a special program of songs and recitations. Baptisms are announced for Sunday afternoon. Methodists hold a 3:30 p.m. service at the Hoffer farm northeast of EigIn.

C W Lippett preserves a narrow corn strip along the north edge, where tassels and silks appear on many ears. The small field runs full length beside tree cover, shielding it from early cold snaps as observed from the road.

Law and Order League to Convene in Elgin Sunday

A meeting of the Law and Order League of Manche county will be held in Elgin at 3 p m on Sunday June 21. Members from Lawton will deliver addresses and all are urged to attend.

Revival meeting launched Saturday evening at the Baptist church with Rev. H P Davis of Texas in charge, assisted by Pastor Rev E D Jeter. The ceremony attracted local worshippers and marked the start of a faith gathering for the community.

Fishermen Discover Soldiers Camped Near Elgin Reservation

Last Wednesday Dr Hils meyer and Frank Is went out in the reservation just south of Elgin to fish but found soldiers camped there and returned home.

The writer praises Rev. Gordon of Fort Worth for the Friday morning lecture Six Cylinder Living. O H Putney sought a copy, urging all to borrow and read it. The talk warned against lottery-like card party imitations and recounted dangers from misused exposure and bad influences leading others astray.

Weaver for Commissioner in Fletcher District

The CHAMPION announces W. C. Weaver of Fletcher as a candidate for county commissioner in this district, subject to the Democratic primary on August 4. Elected last general election, he succeeds John A. Hutchinson and has a record of open, straightforward county service. The current board’s credit is noted for economy and good conduct, and Weaver is praised for diligence and public spirit.

Rev D ke of Elgin officiated at the Methodist church in Lawton as Carieae Eckenfeather daughter of Mr and Mrs John Eckenfeather and a school teacher united in matrimony with a Sterling real estate and loan businessman. The couple left for a wedding trip to Missouri and will reside in Sterling with many well wishers.

Clyde Merryman’s 1210 Acres of Small Grain Anticipated Profit

Clyde Merryman owns 710 acres of fine wheat and 600 acres of oats. He expects a total yield that could fetch about $12,000, averaging roughly $10 per acre on his 1210 acres of small grain. Local forecasts suggest strong returns from both crops this season.

Dance at Elgin hall with church organ accompaniment

A dance was held at the Elgin hall on Tuesday night. Carl Hendricks, Joe Brown and T. P. Fenton led the committee in charge. The violinist asked for an art accompaniment so the Catholic church organ was brought to the hall. Several attendees came from J. Sterling and Fletcher.

The Elgin school board employed Miss Blanche Cally to teach the primary room for the coming year. She is well known locally, having previously taught in the primal room three years ago, and most recently led the primary room at Cache for two years.

New Hardware Firm Opens in Elgin with Vaughn Co

On Tuesday K V Hoffer sold an interest in his Elgin hardware store to the Vaughn Hardware Co. Byron Vaughn and family will run the shop while Hoffer remains near Sterling to tend crops. The new firm is open for business and has ordered a large stock, with Kelley well regarded in the community.

Birthday Social For J. F. King At Home

A surprise social was held last Thursday for J. F. King with many friends and neighbors. He woke to noise, found both men and women present, and the gathering included cake and cream refreshments. The event closed with a prayer service and guests departed in the early morning, wishing him many more happy birthdays.

Swallowed Safety Pin Accident Report

J N Morris and wife faced a scare as their baby swallowed a safety pin left at E A Gilles home north of Elgin. The pin, found stuck in a quilt, prompted the couple to examine the child and seek care. The infant showed no lasting harm and is improving.

Hardware Stock Sold At Auction Under Creditors Action

At 11 o'clock Monday morning the stock of fixtures was offered to creditors. The property recently involved showed 216.30 in fixtures and 183 in notes. Stock and fixtures sold separately then together. Highest bids: stock 825 by Ty, fixtures 50 by K V Hoffer, both 1235 to K V Hoffer who took stock and fixtures. The receipts went to DE McAnaw for 26. Two lots and the building housing the items will be advertised and sold soon.

One On The Rock Island

A Lawton speaker last week used the Rock Island railway to illustrate a point about system. In El Reno a man asked if this was the Rock Tsland system. He replied no, aah, the Rock Island railroad has no system.
