Elgin defeated Cyril by 57 to 6 in a Thursday night basketball game at Fletcher. The Elgin boys dominated from start to finish with a lopsided score.
Mrs Polly C Ryan died after weeks of decline from heart leakage at 12 10 pm Saturday aged 77 years unique months and days. Funeral services were held at the residence by Rev W T Contor Fletcher and the body shipped to Alva Nebraska for interment beside her husband. Daughters Mrs H F Shirk of Elgin and Mrs W Higgins of Lincoln Nebraska accompanied the casket. She was born February 20 1848 near Dayton Ohio married Jacob S and moved to Rabbate later becoming an Oklahoma pioneer. Her husband died March 17 1908. Nine years ago she moved to Oklahoma to live with daughter Mrs Shirk and leaves four daughters and several other relatives. She was a Dunkard church member.
Rev. B. C. Harris of Co tMabohe county preaches at the Baptist church Budday night joining a series of special services. A former 18 year school teacher he shares experiences from travel to illustrate spiritual lessons. Evening services continue with daily programs except Thursday when the lyceum number arrives.
Sterling defeated Verden 66 to 3 as Magnusen scored twenty field goals for Sterling in the Friday basketball game. The Giants extended their late run by overpowering the Indians.
The Fletcher Methodist ladies host a missionary meeting at Mew Ed Roll's home this afternoon. Two hundred invitations were printed each with a small apron pocket for a waist measurement in inches and cents to donate. Invitations promised food and cheer and requested mailing the pron if attendance was impossible.
Editorial in the Meeker Herald discusses the present craai impact on newspapers with a focus on Oklahoma papers. It notes business decline in towns affects all men and cites Norman Daily Transcript as the first state daily to make a radical change while many weekly papers have ceased publication.
The 21 month old grandson of E. D. Good, Ben Matthews, died Friday night near Elgin after contracting laryngial diphtheria. He played outside in the afternoon and a doctor was summoned at 8 pm. the child died within hours and was buried Sunday in Elgin cemetery.
Robert Bowman will headline the Elgin Lyceum course this Thursday evening February 8. His showcases include Our Imported Americans and Characters from Life and Literature with vivid eye and ear accents. A University of Indiana graduate and longtime Lyceum standard, Bowman has toured across the nation on Chautauqua and Lyceum circuits.
Min Nila Stephens has been appointed to lead the Epworth League next Sunday evening at 7 o'clock. Everyone is invited.
The Elgin post office received government garden seed for distribution to those who wish to plant it. In previous years seeds were sent directly to individuals, but this year that method is not used. People who want to plant can come in and obtain a free package.

In compliance with state law C Le Wilvon county official posted notices listing dates for visiting county precincts for annual assessment. Taxpayers are advised to ensure the assessor reviews property and penalties apply for noncompliance. Details show southern county points including Beone Sterling Elgin and others with dates in February March and April 92.
Tuesday morning L C Coffin and wife brought a large dead eagle to town found in their yard. The bird, shot in the wing, measured seven feet from tip to tip. Many people visited one store to view the creature.
