Cotton Seed Policy Affects Farmers in Cotton Belt
The state urges cotton farmers to obtain seed from counties along the northern Cotton Belt and western parts of the state where cotton grows under the shortest growing season. Seed from these areas, planted 10 to 21 days earlier, may help avoid boll weevil damage. Experiments by C R Downet on Lawton Creek in 1916 are cited. A Nov 23 American Democrat article mentions E W Svescer near Lawton reporting 1056 bales of cotton on eight acres from long staple Acwia variety.
