Captain Knox Killed In Airplane Crash At Pt. Sill

Captain George W. Knox paymaster in the quartermaster department at Pt. Sill was killed when an aeroplane piloted by Lieut. R. B. Sutton became uncontrollable at about 300 feet. Sutton survived with injuries and hopes are high for his recovery. Eyewitnesses along the Frisco freight line reported the crash near Elgin after they saw the men fall.

Peach Canner Near Elgin Faces Hurdles and Hazards

A local peach cannery run by Hiram Quigley near Elgin employs ten workers to shell, peel, and can fruit into three pound cans, producing about 800 cans daily. A plant incident involved a car accident injuring two men, with Captain Knox and Lieut. Sutton among the injured. examinations for a postmaster post were postponed due to delayed supplies.

Freight Wreck Delays Traffic Through Elgin

A freight wreck at Laverty halted all traffic through Elgin for the day. Afternoon and night passenger trains operated from Lawton to Chickasha via Rock Island tracks through Anadarko.

Rain fell Sunday evening for two hours, the heaviest in days. L B Miller filled his silo with corn this week. The Mt eral church pastor spoke to a large crowd Sunday. W Wade was on the sick list. Mrs John McGuire of Carnegie visits her mother in law and relatives. Many fished at Medicine Park. The stork brought a 11 lb boy to Mr and Mrs Lon Crain Saturday.

Hollis Woman Offers Quadruplets for Exhibit

Flake Keys of Hollis plans to exhibit her four newborn daughters across the United States with a physician and a trained nurse for each baby. The quadruplets weighed six pounds each at birth and are described as the only quadruplets of the same sex ever born.

Local wind damages home and barn near Hunt farm

A stiff Thursday night wind swept across the area striking W. A. Hunt’s property southeast of town. Oats bundles were blown off stacks and hurled over 60 feet into the road. The barn shifted from its foundation, the roof torn in places, and house boards were ripped away.

New Switchboard Installed at Ligin Central Office

A new switchboard was installed this week at the Ligin central telephone office to handle the rising patient load. T. P. Hindman of Oklahoma City assisted by overseeing the project.

Elgin Methodist Church Adopts New Officers and Reports

The Elgin circuit annual meeting at Elgin Methodist church elected H P Wettengel secretary and W W Garwood to delegate with Harry Campbell as reserve. Members Mabel Black Orr moved to Lawton. Ben Palmer and John Isass died. New officers for trustees stewards and class leaders were chosen across Elgin Sterling and Beaver Bend with district steward H P Wettengel and recording steward J W Garwood.

Rev C A Rock and wife welcome son in Guthrie hospital

In Little Rock Rev C A Rock and his wife of Apache welcomed a son born recently at Guthrie hospital. The noted minister led a revival in Elgin last spring.

Residents report visits and travel including Miss Rickey Shaffer returning to Lawton and Mrs J A Harrison visiting Cyril. Barns received a fresh coat of paint and hail was observed on route 2. Jury service notices list several residents for district court on August 30.

Mrs G W Gilbert Dies After Fire Incident

Mrs G W Gilbert died on Thursday and was buried Friday in Sterling cemetery. The former report noted she tore a catalogue and set fire to her clothing. She is survived by her husband and three young children.
