Wm H Taft arrived in Lyons after a taxing trip to New York City and spoke at the largest hall, delivering an extended address on campaign issues while appearing fatigued and hoarse but in good spirits.
William Jennings Bryan opened the final day of his New York state campaign in Cohoes at the opera house. He urged votes for the Democratic congressional nominee in the district and for state candidates, and predicted his own presidential victory.
Taft and Bryan, the two presidential candidates, wrap a strenuous upstate New York campaign day and head to Syracuse for evening speeches. Taft opened in Lyons and moved eastward, while Bryan shifted westward. Sherman spoke in Albany and Kern planned multiple stops in Indiana.
New York Oct 29 Charles W Morse promoter whose fortune collapsed after the crash may testify in his own defense next. Alfred H Curtis former president of the National Bank of North America already told his story and claimed Morse controlled the bank while Curtis faced actions he believes endangered the bank. Curtis testified Morse pressured acts and Curtis says he never profited from bank operations.
Jermy City faces alleged wholesale registration frauds as Chief Monahan probes poll lists. He reports at least 1,000 illegitimate registrations in lower wards, with names traced to canal boats and other non existent entities amid party disputes.
J L Woods Merrill of Kansas City withdraws as national committeeman for Missouri from the Independence party. In a letter to Wm Hearst he says he refuses any ties to a party or persons who publish stolen correspondence to harm others or to help Hearst and the Independence party, noting misaligned affiliations with other parties and opposition to Bryan.

Washington held a memorial service for the late German ambassador Freier Speck von Sternbarg who died August 28 in Heidelberg. President Roosevelt, Mrs Roosevelt, cabinet members, diplomats, and Supreme Court justices attended among other officials and military representatives.
Shanghai reports the American fleet will not reach Amoy until tomorrow after efforts to establish wireless connections fail. The Chinese chamber of commerce welcomed the fleet, noting its significance given past boycotts. The Culgoa returned to harbor unable to wire telegraph the second squadron. Capt Patton says the battleships are over 200 miles away and due tomorrow afternoon.
Fire destroyed the wholesale grocery house of R. A. Bartley & Co. in Toledo early today. Estimated loss is $400,000, fully insured, with rats in match stock blamed for starting the blaze.

Cincinnati dispatch reports a panic among office girls on the eleventh floor of the Neave building after a burst fire hose on the sixth floor sent flames through windows. At least eight girls were injured, several seriously, and a fireman was badly hurt. The busy Fourth and Race Streets corner became crowded as firefighters fought the blaze and hose bursts disrupted the scene.
Camp Nemo Tennessee October 29 more than ninety prisoners confined in the camp with a block of thirty four held in one tent last night. A heavy guard watches movements and talking is restricted to periods under guard observation. Theo Hoffman arrested and believed to be a prisoner of importance.
October reports from New York note that Secretary Root in Washington has refused to grant the extradition warrant demanded by the Russian ambassador for Pou ren. The move is not deemed final, but it signals Russia’s persistence in seeking Pou ren’s return. Protracted proceedings before Commissioner Shields are cited as the next step in the case.

London dated report states wreckage from the steamer Yarmouth confirms its foundering two days earlier on a North Sea voyage from Hook of Holland to Harwich. The channel freighter of Great Huntera railroad Co. carried 23 crewmen. belief is that all were lost.
Nashville dispatch reports that Tia Burton, the confessed night rider who revealed the raiders' secret, has been jailed in Union City under heavy guard after a Tiptonville report.
In Joplin on October 29 Lee Nutt of Neosho shot Jacob Nicely in a shoe store after unexpectedly meeting his wife who had left him for another man. Nutt surrendered to officers without resistance. Mrs. Nutt’s remark that he should not have acted was noted.
Captain Aber, who secured a concession from the Alaskan-Yukon Pacific exposition, faces Russian scrutiny over alleged kidnapping of Siberian natives from Anadario. The group, described as Eskimo, were brought to Seattle a month ago and are housed on Hood's canal amid government protest.
Cambridge set piece notes Radcliffe graduate Mrs G Van Dusen Cooks, a Daughter of the Revolution, laments economic hardship. She cites twelve years in civics and a glut of teachers, saying few have money while many professionals are unemployed.

In Austin Minnesota on October 29 Herbert Emery of Red Rock ended his engagement to Eith Heighet because his mother warned he could not support a wife. Devastated, Heighet swallowed corrosive sublimate and died. Her mother had opposed the match, then relented before the wedding was due.
