New York Oct 26 W J Bryan missing his train by seconds makes a wild dash in an auto through a mud strewn road to keep pace with the people of Jersey City. The Democratic candidate juggled a tight schedule after arriving at 9 15 am and crossing to New York, where he spent the day at the Herman Ridder hotel. Bryan says he is finishing the campaign better than ever and feeling tired but well.
Philadelphia October 26 Former Governor Stone said he did not recall receiving letters from John D Archbold or from the Standard Oil Co regarding the appointment of John Henderson of Meadville Pa as a judge of the superior court He added that if he had such letters he would be at the Capitol at first chance to see them
Caracas reports President Castro will not revoke the decree restricting trans shipments for Venesuan ports at Curacao. He notes surprise at the Netherlands requesting revocation and invites a confidential message to negotiate a settlement. Castro’s health remains delicate and worrying to supporters.
Chicago dispatch reports Wallace H. Hopkins the absconding broker captured at Seattle was staying at the Kensington hotel owned by M. Erickson formerly of Larimore North Dakota. Erickson bought the hotel after Hopkins posed as Mr Garnther and the two men had socialized with Larimore residents.
Carroll 8 page reports former Vermont governor Carroll Page was elected United States senator for the remaining two years of the Proctor term. Page, who served as governor from 1890 to 1892, heads a leading hide and tallow business.
