Seven track laborers on a hand car were struck and killed by a Chicago, Burlington & Quincy passenger train between Highland and LaGrange, Illinois. Three died instantly and four succumbed shortly after. ten men were aboard, with the rest escaping with light injuries. The crash was blamed on the laborers placing the hand car on the wrong track.
The jury returned a not guilty verdict at 3 45 this afternoon in the case presented before the court.
The case of W. F. Ward charged with sodomy went to the jury at 11:20 after a bitter trial. Attorney T. H. McEnroe presented strong alibi testimony with Moorhead witnesses claiming Ward was in a Moorhead saloon that afternoon. The jury deliberated at 3:30 p m.
