Washington, Nov. 5. President Roosevelt may succeed Senate or Platt. several say he would not be averse to the office under conditions after March 4. He has given no formal statement but notes that with Taft as president his hesitancy to enter the Senate would lessen and his main reason would disappear.
Minot North Dakota November 6 Tom Marshall's expected 1500 vote lead in Ward county narrowed to 321 as 170 of 176 precincts reported. Total counts show Johnson 4690 and Marshall 4011, with remaining precincts unlikely to change the outcome.
Taft secured a lead of 4,235 votes in Missouri as supplementary returns came in. The state legislature appears to lean Democratic by six on joint ballot, while uncertainty centers on minor state offices and proposed amendments.
Chicago report says discipline during a fire drill prevented panic as a fire attacked a two story frame branch school at Lunt avenue and North Robey street. Teachers organized orderly evacuation through the rear and the building was saved.

Los Angeles, Cal November 6 On trial for shooting his wife last June in an attempt to slay her Guy Hadley a 60 year old man broke down on the witness stand and confessed his name was Elias Malet. He said his Hadley relatives were prominent in Indiana and that he changed his name fifteen years ago after the death of his first wife. He testified he was a superintendent of a wheel works in Indianapolis twenty four years ago but lost his job due to gambling Hamlet was sentenced to ten years.
A kitchen fire at Bliss Electrical Scholarly campus forces about 200 students to flee in their night clothes. All are believed safe as losses reach $50,000. The incident occurred on November 6 in Washington.
Jamestown residents raised 6150 dollars in 30 minutes at city hall to support re establishing the state Presbyterian college in Jamestown. The funds form part of 11000 dollars allocated for building improvements and springwork to ready the campus on the hill for a September opening. A writ of error was obtained from Judge Lacombe this afternoon in the case of Charles W. Morse. Morse was expected to be released on bail following the writ.
Missouri Congress member MP Clark has been returned by a majority and is expected to back Senator-Elect Williams of Tennessee as the minority leader in the House.
Twenty eight nurses at Michael Reese hospital slept in a nearby house when a fire struck early today. Some escaped with minor injuries by leaping from a second story window. others were led out by rescuers or fled in nightgowns. Miss Bessie groped through corridors to raise the alarm. The floor collapsed after she left. All found shelter and clothing. monetary loss was small.
New York is reporting Morse remains in Marshal Henkel custody. A ten day stay of execution was granted by Judge Hough. A notice of appeal is expected to be filed immediately. If Morse goes to prison he will be confined in the federal prison at Atlanta.
Morse, a director and controlling owner of the National Bank of North America, is sentenced to 15 years for misapplication of funds. Alfred H. Curtin, former bank president, gains clemency with sentence suspended. a 10 day stay is granted pending appeal. Court scene described as dramatic with Morse stoic and unshaken.

New York reports the Chinese government selected William A. Grant, a bank note specialist, to manage its currency project. He signed a five year contract with government support including travel to China, housing in Pekin, servants, and supplies for his family.

Fessenden North Dakota November 6 official governor count shows C A Johnson with a 127 vote majority over Tom Marshall. Senator results also indicate Johnson ahead of M N Johnson by 188 in Wells county with the tally favoring the Republican nominee.
Official Bowman county results show Taft 451, Bryan 209, Dr A Johnson 364, John Burke 334, M N Johnson 281, Tom Marshall 349, indicating Dr A Johnson has a majority over Burke.
Sioux Falls reports county option defeated by about 7000 votes in South Dakota on November 6 in a close statewide ballot.
