Nashville crowds fill streets as the four mile law takes effect at midnight banning sale of all liquors beer and ale. Brewers face a deadline of January 1 1910 to close operations while retailers race to sell stock at discount prices before prohibition fully takes hold.

Pendleton June 30 two clippings suggest a link between the January disappearance of Curt Pless, president of Pless Hay and Grain Co., in Washington, and the discovery of a body in a box in the Columbia River opposite Pendleton. The descriptions match, with Pless at six feet six inches and the body believed dead three or four months, preserved by cold water, matching the disappearance date. Coroner Folsom notes the time fits Pless.

Winnipeg, June 30. After a three month strike the coal miners of southern Alberta and southeastern British Columbia voted yesterday to accept operators terms. The agreement, to last two years, is signed at Hosmer today. Although no closed shop clause was won, the men gain full cooperation of the operators to strengthen their union and improve working conditions. They return to work Monday.

Frederick, June 30. Policeman Wm. Orrison was killed last night with his own club while en route to the magistrate's office with Frank Cahill, 15, accused of stealing vibes on a merry go round. In front of Cahill’s home a crowd encircled them. Orrison's club was ripped away and a heavy blow struck him on the head, leaving him unconscious before he could be aided.
