Minnesota Republicans held county conventions to choose delegates for the state convention. Early returns are sparse but leaders claim strong results and expect a record year. In Ramsey County the Dunn faction bolted, producing two sets of delegates while St. Louis County also backed Dunn.
Walter Scott told police he was robbed of 12000 dollars in gold on a Pullman between Pittsburg and Harrisburg. The report was later deemed false. In Cherbourne a claim that Agent J Loomis’s body washed ashore was found erroneous.
In St Louis on June 28 the airship Santos Dumont suffered a night time gas bag cut and slashed beyond repair, preventing its use in the hill race.
In Bismarck on June 28 the prisoner Graham who escaped the county jail last week then was recaptured staged a hanging attempt using a rope fashioned from bed blankets. Sheriff Welch removed him from suspension and confiscated the improvised rope. The sheriff says Graham has pursued an insane dodge since his recapture.

Near Minot North Dakota June 22 the body of Mrs Elizabeth Graham was found at the farm home about eighteen miles north of the city with a bullet hole in the head The weapon entered the forehead between the eyes and exited at the back Two of her children returning from a dance discovered their mother dead The husband William Graham is missing and is suspected in a fatal act possibly during a mental episode He suffered a severe head injury six years earlier and was known to be irascible and subjected to fits of temper
Tokio June 28. The Taku Shan division of the Japanese army defeated five battalions of Russian infantry after a six hour battle. Japanese forces inflicted heavy losses estimated at 100 killed and wounded and pursued the retreating Russians who offered stubborn resistance with cavalry and sixteen guns.
A Tokyo dispatch says another Russian battleship is stranded off Tiger Bay and likely wrecked while returning from the Port Arthur naval action.
In Narva Russia on June 28 two Japanese men posing as itinerant organ grinders were arrested. Police found a hidden organ containing maps of the Baltic coast and surveying instruments. The incident underscores wartime espionage activity in occupied territories.
