North Dakota State Bankers association begins its convention in the city tomorrow at the Orpheum theatre. It promises to be one of the biggest bankers meetings in the state with bankers arriving from across the state and several neighboring states. Lawson Purdy, a cultured New York City figure and Trinity College graduate, leads New York tax authorities. He championed separating land values and improvements in tax reports, a reform praised as a masterpiece. Under his efforts the department raised land value assessments by 200 million dollars last year.
A major blaze at the Barnes boat house on Commercial Wharf in Nantucket killed two young women Miss Helen Wilson and Mildred De Haven and left three men, Thomas Kerr Ulysses Puduh and Barnes, in critical condition. The fire was traced to a cigarette match on recently varnished floor.

Westhope Minot and others describe favorable crop conditions, ample rain, and strong hay and corn prospects amid hot spells. No adverse reports or damage have appeared across the state.

A man was put to death in the electric chair at Auburn prison today for the January 16 1908 murder of Anna Caddiala. He had been living with her and confessed to the crime after quarreling over her husband. He beat the woman to death with a stove lifter.
Justice Daniel T. Wright issues a writ directing Samuel Gompers Frank Morrison and John Mitchell to appear on July 17 to show cause why they should not be found guilty of contempt of court. The action follows committees’ report on the Buck Stove and Range boycott matter and comes after the US Supreme Court overturned Wright’s earlier jail sentences and allowed civil contempt questions to proceed if reopened.

A federal grand jury indicted the Eastern Boxboard club on Sherman act charges. The body links the club as successor to Fibre & Manila, accusing presidents officers and agents of paperboard firms of restraint of trade limiting output and fixing prices. The case opens a new series of trust prosecutions in New York on June 26.
In a Federal matter a Chicago arrest for embezzlement ties to the Glavis family figure linked to the Balinger-Pinchott dispute. The Chicago Tribune seeks papers it alleges Glavis secured. W. E. Elis, once an assistant attorney, is retained as prosecutorial counsel.

Havre June 26 heavy rain across northern Montana cripples traffic. The Great Northern division reports the worst downpour in years as cloud washouts wash away miles of the four foot grade between Dodson and Malta, hindering travel and transport.
