Washington reports quote Count Von Bernstorff denying knowledge of a Dr Alfred Meyer aid alleged to have been secretly in the United States with war supplies. He says Meyer Gerhard never worked beyond his mission for the German Red Cross and had no safe conduct.

Joseph O. Wyard, former Goodrich postmaster, was sentenced to sixty days in Cass county jail and a 200 dollar fine. The court ordered jail time to continue until the fine is paid. He was convicted of embezzling 250 dollars from the post office around July 21, 1914, after a lengthy trial concluding last evening.
Paris reports Lieut Reginald Warneford, famed for destroying a Zeppelin over Belgium, died when his aeroplane crashed at Buc France. Passenger Henry Beach Needham, the American writer, also perished. They fell about 600 feet after a brief Paris stay to receive his honor.
A mass meeting is planned at the Commercial Club rooms this afternoon at 4 40 to discuss Wilson Day. Mayor Emery issued invitations urging residents to join tomorrow at 4 20 p m to decide on the advisability of holding the mass meeting, showing citizens’ faith in President Wilson’s ability to handle the war in Europe.
Washington dispatch reports Chazaro the Villa Zapata government leader in Mexico City disputing President Wilson. In his Indianapolis speech he challenges Wilson’s non intervention stance and asserts Mexican dignity will be upheld by the convention government if Wilson’s comments threaten.
In Vera Cruz the food shortage grows desperate prompting Rear Admiral Caperton to ask the navy department to use warships to transport relief supplies and bolster forces. The department, for now, will not increase American ships as aid. Caperton’s ships move north as replacements and a relief expedition to the Yosemite valley is noted.
The New York Court of Appeals denied the application for re argument by counsel for Charles Becker, former police lieutenant, in Albany on June 18, upholding the death sentence affirmed in the prior decision.
Albany dispatch reports that an appeal upheld the order of Supreme Court Justice Hendrick directing a jury to test the sanity of Harry Thaw. The decision moves the case toward a jury trial in the Albany area.
Washington reports officials say Britain has intimated a reply may come soon to the March 30 American note protesting the legality of the order of council. It covers preceeding notes and principles on contraband and continuous voyage. The United States has not admitted the right to detain contraband cargoes to neutral ports without proven enemy destination, with cases pending.
Berlin reports an allied force north of Labassee in northwestern France was destroyed with few escaping. Russian war office tallies heavy Austro German losses in Galicia, claiming tens of thousands killed near Stry and 120,000 to 150,000 lost on a Galician front segment between May 29 and June 15. Reports from Berlin and Vienna say Russians are being pushed back along the front as Balkan negotiations proceed. A Gallipoli stalemate continues with British fleet taking refuge in Kerala Bay after mines threaten ships offshore.
Berlin June 18 The arrival of Dr Gerhard from the German embassy sparks preparatory work for a German reply. He begins a series of talks with the foreign office officials and meets Dr Solf, Gottlieb Von Jagow, and Secretary Zimmerman. Outcome of the note remains uncertain.
The ninth annual meeting of the North Dakota Retail Jewelers Association ends with a banquet at the Waldorf hotel tonight. Members report two busy days filled with sessions and business, with little time for recreation as the event concludes.
Finel figures on referendums in Bramarck North Dakota show petitions filed with Secretary of State Thomas Hall. Senate Bill No 194 seeks $60000 for immigration promotion and state resources advertising with 8272 signatures, surpassing the 8228 required to trigger a vote in November. McHenry County led signers, Grand Forks County second, and Bounty, Bottineau, and others contributed notable totals. House Bill No 114 also has ample signers. it would regulate sale of intoxicating liquor and address dealer penalties. The final court ruling on these petitions will decide their validity and may affect both measures.
