In Philadelphia the fiftieth anniversary celebration of the Republican party opens at the Music Fund hall with delegates from across the country. Nearly 200 aged veterans of the party attend, recalling the 1856 nomination of John C. Fremont for president.
In Musical Fund Hall the National Republican league opens a four day fiftieth anniversary celebration. Governor Pennypacker presides and Rev Edward Levy offers the invocation once used at the 1856 convention. Historians Barnes Reyburn Weand and McClure read papers and discuss Lincoln and Garfield amid musical selections.
American delegates to King Maakon's coronation arrive in Christiana Norway. A crowd greets them at the quay with American flags. They honor Henrick Arnold Wedlund’s monument with wreaths and hear greetings from America. They plan to travel to Trondhjem tomorrow.

King Edward informs the grand regatta committee of St Malo to Isle of Wight yacht race that he will donate a valuable cup as a prize. The award adds to an unusually large prize list and a high number of entries for the racing week.
The Connecticut State Saengerfest begins in Waterbury on June 18, with the Saengerbund meeting in the city for the first time since 1878. About 600 male voices join an Rochester orchestra for the opening concert in the Buckingham building music hall, a 1500-seat venue with noted acoustics. A parade and Morrispark picnic follow the festival concerts.
