Rain deluged Fargo and surrounding areas then spread statewide with farmers predicting a bumper crop. Officials report unusually heavy rainfall across western North Dakota and the Red River region, raising rye and flax prospects and pushing yearly totals above normal.
New York reports a vast American track and field delegation sailing aboard the steamship Finland bound for Stockholm. About 150 team members travel with roughly 100 track athletes, including 14 supplementals, to compete in the Olympic events, with the ship converted into a floating gymnasium.
Sheriff Boyle, at Chicago police request, seized Paul Jarzo aged 17 on a farm near Chaffee on a murder warrant. He confessed to firing a revolver in a dispute with his father, claiming years of abuse. He gave name Jarzo with alias Gosho and will be sent to Chicago.
In Antigo Wisconsin during encampment week two Grand Army of the Republic brothers Walter Quick Aniway and Jacob Quick reunited after forty years apart. Walter, of Aniway Wisconsin, served in Company C Eighth Wisconsin. Jacob, a farmer from Horicon, belonged to Company Twenty-ninth Wisconsin. They met briefly at headquarters then departed for the depot.

Instructors demonstrated soil fertility and crop nutrition using a chemistry car showing plant food removed per crop and the true costs of fertilizer versus crop value.
