George Von L. Meyer endorses Hughes as he begins his first campaign conference in New York. Hughes plans to rally party leaders and form a nonpartisan alliance to back his bid for president, while organizers prepare a national effort and headquarters in New Port.
London reports German forces fail to take Fort Vaux and faltering on Verdun front while bombardment continues north of the Meuse. Concurrently Petrograd cites Russian entry toward Czernowitz with 35 000 Austrian captures and Galicia and Volhynia activity subsiding. Fargo hosts Halvorson governor bid club led by J F McGrann with Minot branches planned to propel the Democratic candidate.
The Fargo milk probe see page notes indictments. U S district attorney M A Hildreth said charges against an alleged milk price conspiracy will not be dropped but no new indictment will be filed now. The federal grand jury recently returned 36 indictments out of 41 bills, but there is not enough evidence to predicate an indictment at this time. The DA will continue data collection to corroborate charges for future grand jury consideration.
Dates announced for the Dakota Tennis Tournament to open on August 14 during the North Balkola Busta event. The Tennis Association confirms planning meetings and venue at Yar of the aarcsataatl with week commencing August.
The Industrial Arts division of the Agricultural College gains a scholarship from the Minneapolis Institute of Art for Miss Maud Engle of the senior class. Gladys Wellan is named alternate. The Boston School of Fine Crafts offers no award this season. Mrs Mae Douglas Rindlaub returns east after visiting top art schools and attending arts meetings in Grand Rapids and Washington. Her studio on the third floor of the college building opens to the public this evening.
A. M. Beveridge, former Flickertail publisher, is in Fargo today en route from British Columbia to Minneapolis. His daughter Gladys accompanies him while Mia Beveridge and son Robert stay in Grand Forks. Beveridge sold his news boat and plans to return to the United States as weather conditions from Ellendale to Column influence travel.
From Minneapolis on June 12 a growing delegation of women travels by boat along the Mississippi toward St Louis. The group aims to urge Democrats to add a suffrage plank to their platform amid a spirited reception in towns along the river.
A newspaper plant owned by T. Senn in Deadwood was wrecked last night by unknown persons. Senn has led a campaign against vice in the area for several years.
Fifteen crew members of the Norwegian steamer Bur of 1942 tons report their ship was sunk near Ymuiden. They landed at the port via London and say the sinking was caused by either a mine or a submarine.
Tuesday marks a full schedule at the North Dakota Agricultural College with a 9:30 am procession 10:00 am exercises at the armory addressed by Gov. Hanna a 1:00 pm luncheon at Ceres hall 3:00 pm alumni field events at Dakota field 6:20 pm alumni banquet at Ceres hall and a campus program featuring violin solos class songs and performances by student groups. Officers include Harold Bachman Margaret Hutchinson Louise Fitzgerald and Boletha Frosen. Exposition night opens the campus buildings for public viewing from 7:39 to 11:30 pm with a dance festival and a president’s address followed by campus presentations.

The Northern Pacific board authorized 200 miles of automatic block signals on the main line, with Glendive as the first block signal link. The project aims to expand protection rapidly, costing about $450,000, and bids will be sought soon.
Washington June 12 Secretary of War Baker will be president pro tempore of the convention and draft the platform for Wilson. He will oversee committee work with Senators James and Ste vere Doremus, F W Steckman and Fred Lynch. Roosevelt is seen as active in Hughes campaign. The Democratic National Committee met to finalize arrangements for 1,003 delegates, with contests over six seats. The convention program includes a Wednesday opening with keynote, Thursday speeches, and Friday platform readings and ticket naming. Foreign relations, Mexican situation, preparedness and tariff are key planks to be presented. The platform will emphasize wartime conditions and Wilson’s pursuit of peace and honor.
The Cass and Ransom counties summer school at North Dakota Agricultural College opens Wednesday morning June 14 and runs to July 21. About 150 to 160 teachers are expected to enroll for sessions serving teachers with college and elementary tracks. Credit toward graduation may be earned under state education rules. Courses cover six weeks or three weeks, with round table conferences and weekday attendance required. Primary students are sought for the model school work at Littl Country theater Wednesday afternoon.
A relief meeting last night in the auditorium raised 375 dollars in cash and pledges for non-combatants in Europe. Short addresses were given by quagenne Aotek, Mayor H Emery, Atty M W Murphy, Dr Mallarian, and Dr Wilbur. The program included piano pieces by a mixed quartet from Fargo College Conservatory under Professor Stephens and a solo by Prof Franz Sucher. Funds will aid non-combatants in northern France, east Prussia, Poland, Serbia, Belgium and Armenia. Rev Mr Ford of Plymemon real church supported the effort, hoping city-wide backing would boost the total.
