Washington reports reveal the American Sugar Refining Co. hid operations from stockholders. Vice president BH. F. Atkins testified that New England holders gained control in 1910 and that O. Havemeyer managed the company with about 2,000 shares at his death, once believed to own most of the stock. The committee found 63 percent of owners were New Englanders.

Washington June 12 Senator McCumber of North Dakota spoke against direct popular elections for U.S. senators predicting that replacing the state legislature with a direct vote would not end political ills. He warned the reform could shift corruption from legislators to the public arena and cautioned that crowds may still be misled by demagogues and special interests.
The church's role in social work was debated at the national conference of charists and corrections in Twentieth Century Hall this morning. Rev F M North spoke on minister preparation for social work as part of the Federal Council committee discussions.

Detroit June 12 The International Stereotypers and Electrotypers Union of All America opened its tenth annual convention in Detroit Michigan with delegates from many locals expected to attend the sessions and address key labor issues.
Mrs Alanson W Edwards died this forenoon from heart failure after a brief collapse at home. Born in Carlinville Illinois in 1845 she was 66. She married in 1870 and moved to Fargo in 1878. Survived by one brother Professor Charles Robertson and one sister Mrs Frank R Burton and seven children William Washington and others in Chicago and Cuticago.
San Diego June 12 A wireless report says treasure hunters financed by Harry Kreiting of San Francisco found a treasure off the Honduran coast. Estimates place value between 16 million and 65 million dollars in gold and jewels buried over twenty years ago. Maps held by a former Honduran resident connected Kvelling to the tale and dashed the expedition’s hopes.
The class day program on Tuesday afternoon features songs, history, prophecy and presentations of gifts to the college. Grand Forks June 12 William Weaver of Minot, delegate to the Cad Fellows Convention, was found after a prolonged officials search. He reports being slugged on the head while by the river watching a steamboat depart and says he was imprisoned.
The World’s Conference of Brethren, held in a city auditorium, just closed a session attended by about 15,000 delegates from across the globe. Cash donations and mission funds were collected, while attendees from various nations participated in the event and observed the simple attire of the delegates.
Rev Elmer L Williams pastor of Grace Methodist entered a gambling den at 636 North Clark Street disguised as a tramp with a young man. Detectives and officers arrested twenty nine men after smashing two iron barred doors with axes. Keeper Thomas Moffett booked. Williams claimed he watched the gambling for over an hour and did not gamble himself.
Kansas City June 12 Re sumption today of the state ouster suit against the lumber trust heard R A Long president of Long Bolt Lumber Co admit to curtailing output to yellow pine 33 1 3 percent for six months in 1904 following a Southern Lumber Manufacturers association recommendation He said a price list committee and a committee on trade and reports existed but were abolished some time ago.
J D Hayford of Fargo eastern representative of Alas Lumber and BShin Ble Co Beattle has been named vicegerent snark of the Concatenated Order of Hoo-Hoo. The appointment comes from H J Miller snark of the Universe in a lumbermen dominated order open to related trades including forestry, insurance, newspapers, and manufacturing. Hayford’s friends welcome the honor and foresee possible promotion at the next election.
The North Dakota Democrat weekly organ edited by George W. Wilkinson formerly in Fargo has moved to the Laing building on First Avenue North to Second Avenue North. The new quarters are spacious and on the ground floor, improving access and activity.
A special senate committee moves to serve subpoenas on figures tied to the Lorimer investigation. Names include Lee O Neil Browne Edward Hines Edward Tilden and Clarence Funk as the panel keeps secrecy while preparing for hearings in Chicago. Senator Lorimer was absent from the senate today awaiting the direct vote resolution.

Attorney General Wickersham’s special assistant Edwin P Grosvenor leads the probe with witnesses J. K. Miller and John W. Gollean.
