Guns Guarded Puget Sound Tampered With Fort Worden Fort Flagler

Port Townsend June 1 An attempt to disable the big guns at Fort Worden and Fort Flagler guarding Puget Sound was uncovered after breach blocks of four guns were removed and loading mechanisms damaged. Visitors are barred and only those with special permission and escort may access the battery elevations following surreptitious photographs of the forts.

Zeppelins Reach London Quietly Amid Raid Deaths

London reports reveal Zeppelin airships reached the city last night causing four deaths and several injuries. Despite the raid, most residents slept through it and learned of the event only from admiralty statements. Fires were reported but may be unrelated, and normal life continued with public rumors spreading.

Hellstrom Falls Far Short in Effort to Hang Up State Laws

F C Hellstrom filed the first batch of referendum petitions with Secretary of State Thames Hall in Bismarck on June 1. About 146 petitions were submitted and are expected to average around fifteen signatures each, far short of the 9,000 required to place the fourteen laws on the ballot. Hellstrom left Bismarck by early train promising to return before filing deadline to meet the goal.

German Reply to American Note on Lunitinia Case

Conference Delegates to Meet in Twin Cities Prior to Synod

Dr M G Hanson of Kenyon Minn reports a nationwide church assembly with delegates from Wisconsin Iowa Nebraska Kansas Michigan and other states to discuss amalgamation mission work and education. About 200 delegates will attend the meeting in the Twin Cities with roughly 1000 at the synod conference.
