Dr. Carlo Mendoza, Panama’s special emissary, arrived in Bogota to negotiate a treaty of amity between Colombia and Panama. The mission aims to establish friendly relations, amid popular support and no rioting.
Fargo council of Knights of Columbus plans a large delegation for the Dickinson chapter installation on New Year’s day. Over 260 visiting knights expected, with about 100 more picked up along the line. Delegations from South Dakota and western Montana, and Minot joining. Pontifical high mass in morning conducted by Bishop Vincent Wehrle of Bismarck. Dinner at noon, degrees to begin, forty candidates, third degree work by Fargo council officers. Banquet at 6 p.m. Dickinson’s St. Patrick’s ladies to host over 300 guests. Fourth lodge of Knights of Columbus to be established in North Dakota.
Shiloh Lodge A F and A M will hold St John festival services next Tuesday evening in the Masonic temple at 7 30 sharp. A strong program is arranged with Masonry to attend and Brother Walters delivering the principal address. The event features hymns prayers and an orchestral selection. Rock Springs Texas December 24. Washington December talks on friar land deals will feature the interior department head of the Philippines along with Dean C Worcester Frank W Carpenter and Capt. Charles S Sleeper. They arrive to answer charges raised by Congressman Martin of Colorado and to defend their records. The panel aims to present data to counter the 1910 accusation of maladministration and to vindicate their reputations. Continued on Page Six.
Four men died in Eccles West Virginia when a descending bucket in No 5 shaft of the New River Coal Co overturned and plunged about 500 feet to the bottom of the mine.
Superior Wisconsin reports a coal surplus with more than 5,000,000 tons on hand this year, surpassing last year’s end totals by over 2,000,000 tons and nearing the 10,000,000 ton milestone for next year. Northwestern Coal Co led holdings at about 1,500,000 tons. receipts this year were around 8,000,000 tons, with a projected rise pending.
In Albion New York two boys were burned at a Christmas tree display in the Ende burg schoolhouse while removing Santa Claus and Jack Frost costumes. Charles Anderson sustained serious burn injuries and Peter Grace was also burned. doctors say they may recover.
Chicago December 24 The big stockyards blaze at Morris and Co beet warehouses remains unsubdued with 24 dead including Chief Marshal James Horan. Firemen pour dozens of water streams on smoldering ruins as fumes rise under thick smoke. Officials warn the fire may burn for days with no new spread detected.
Kirby Stephen December 24 eight passengers killed and twenty five injured in Scottish express wreck near a junction. The train, carrying 500 bound for Home in Scotland for Christmas, derailed after colliding with a pilot engine. Wreckage caught fire and most cars burned. eight bodies recovered amid charred debris.
Washington dispatch reports the 26,000 ton battleship Arkansas will be launched January 14 at the New York Shipbuilding Company yard in Camden New Jersey. The keel was laid January 15, marking rapid progress. The governor of Arkansas has been asked to name a sponsor for the ship.
A Sylacauga fire last night destroyed a large portion of the Alabama Marble Co. plant owned by New York capitalists. Loss is reported at about 600000.
Rutland North Dakota December 24 A shooting in Cayuga leaves Henry Schuebeiller of the Schubeiller firm in the meat market shot through the heart while in Melsen's store. The incident remains under investigation.
Kenton December tragedy reported with a restaurant clerk discovering two rear building rooms containing six deaths. Fire had been burning in a gas stove without a stovepipe, fumes suspected cause. Four bodies found in one room, two women and four men in total. A son of a dead man helped open doors after alarms were raised.
Frite Landing Arkansas reports Russell Gardner a St Louis financier and governor Patterson's brother in law has deserted his plantation. He departed with a stenographer and secretary. The plantation store sold, return uncertain. Black Hand threats and skull and crossbones marked the home, with numerous anonymous notes cited. Government officials to investigate.
Mount Sterling Kentucky December 21 Deputy United States Marshal Clinton Allen and his brother Walter were shot to death in a pistol duel with special policeman James Tipton and saloon keeper Michael Gibbons in front of Gibbons saloon. Tipton and Gibbons were arrested.

Fort Wayne December 24 A collision at Colon between west bound passenger train No 15 and east bound express train No 4 on the Pennsylvania railroad killed six persons and injured about six others none fatally. The wreck is believed caused by the Eastbound engineer disregarding block signals.
Madison Wis Dec 24 continuation schools similar to those in vogue in Germany will be advocated by the special committee on industrial education which met this morning at the office of Pres R Van Hise at the University of Wisconsin to formulate its report to be presented to the legislature Hight bills prepared by Dr Charlies H McCarthy of the legislative reference library were offered by the committee for discussion with the object of giving thorough study to each and uniting upon the best features of all the residuum to form the tentative bill to be presented to the legislature for its approval In view of the preliminary nature of the meeting and for other reasons copies of the proposed bills were not given out and it ie said the committee arl qeath until ite report is ready before permitting the measures to be seen a Connecting Link te The continuation schools which it is said the committee will propare will form a connecting link in the identical education between the manual training departments of the grammar schools and trade schools The such cogs of Germanys industrial life is attributed to these schools which keep boys who are unable to go to the high school profitably employed between the grammar school and trade school age and which result in their becoming skilled workmen instead of unskilled laborers.
A unidentified man, likely from San Francisco, was found dead in a hallway on East Party-ninth street New York. He appeared dead about two hours, wore fine clothing, weighed 170 pounds, stood nearly six feet, about 35 years old. Only a door key and a derby hat marked Mc Creedy Bros San Francisco were found. Police opened an investigation.
New York Dec 24 R D Buckman 41 former Great Lakes sailor who captained the Turkish cruiser Medjidie and later served as naval advisor to the sultan Abdul Hamid recounts a remarkable career. Buckman once saved the sultan from assassination during his service in Turkey.
Ottawa December 24 The Canadian railway commission ordered express companies to adopt lower tariff rates within three months. It notes the express services are owned by the railways and sees no need for separate companies to run express business.
Washington Penn December 24 a coal mine abandoned fifty years ago gave way today and carried down the large foundry of Zeah nizer Bros Stein on West Chest ut street John A Stein vice president of the company and twelve workmen were badly injured but none will die There were a score of other employes who escaped unhurt from the debris of the fallen wall broken machinery and twisted shaftings Some sections of the building fell 150 feet to the base of the old mine The loss amounts to 375000.
Fortyseven prisoners in the federal prison at Atlanta will be released on parole. John B. Greene and W J Gaynor, linked to Capt Oberlin Carter in Savannah harbor frauds, are among those freed before Christmas to reach home for bonds. Gaynor has suffered loco motor ataxia and Greene was a former army engineer assigned to prison construction work.
London dispatch reports S Grace, the amateur aviator attempting to cross the English Channel to Dover, lost his way in fog and search efforts continued without success.
Chicago December 24 The mid day conference between railway managers and engineers led to a no strike on railroads west north and south of Chicago. Grand Chief Warren Stone and mediator Charles P Neill announced a general wage raise of 10 1 3 percent for employes, about 40 cents a day in normal service, with specifics to be drafted and signed.
United States Senator Lafe Young arrived in Des Moines to renew his candidacy for the special primary to fill the late Senator Delivers unexpired term. He pledged to protect Iowa farmers and opposing eastern free trade demands as his campaign momentum grows.
Judge Templeton ruled in favor of Miss Helen Princeville in the Grand Forks contest case over votes cast in the local party primary. The suit, filed by Miss Wagar, questioned the legality of unworn and unregistered votes. Carling defended Princeville. Skulason for Wagar plans to appeal to the state supreme court.

In Walsh County North Dakota a judge rules in favor of Erickson in the contest over the county superintendency. Wells had claimed a son was not a legal voter and did not hold the office, but the court decision supports Erickson.
At Union Star Missouri a blaze on December 24 burned five buildings including the Union Star Herald office. N H Cochran six years old, who lived alone, was burned to death while cooking breakfast. The blaze caused about $10,000 in damage to the premises and nearby businesses.
