George Bloohas an 18 year old confessed to dropping a boulder on a sleeping man’s head in Estimas Store 4 Kalamazoo Michigan last summer. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in Brat-Quette prison and begged the officers to hang him rather than life behind bars.
Winnipeg reports three home settlers Don Burrial P Thon and John Hornby died of suffocation after they shut drafts on a cooking stove in a farm shack twelve miles north of Luseland Saskatchewan. A fourth occupant escaped as gas filled the shack.
A violent storm with thunder swept Brest harbor as battleships Minnesota Idaho Mississippi and Vermont rode out the gale. The French armored cruiser was not damaged and remained at anchor despite the tempest.
War veteran Rans Rosencrans received three years in the state penitentiary after being convicted of grand larceny. Hana Lare ngard led with ten years for assault, Stephen Bohum got five years, Dave Farragher one year after pleading guilty to larceny, and Carl Sink faces sentencing later. The cases arose from pleas of guilty in Hana district court.
Washington Dec 13 The 1920 census director Durand announced Williston North Dakota had an 8124 population in the twelfth census year. The ten year growth is noted with a special Williston census showing 5126 residents after the federal count.
Franklin Thompson of this county paid a $300 fine after pleading guilty in district court to slashing tires on Walter Hill's car from St Paul. Hill had driven onto Thompson's field to avoid a mud hole, prompting the confrontation and arrest warrant.

Stanley North Dakota December report says a lignite mine collapse left a worker with internal injuries and a double fracture of the right arm in a critical condition. In Bowbells North Dakota December charge filed accusing two laborers of robbing their companion, one waiving preliminary exam and bound for district court. The alleged robbery involved forcing the witness to surrender a valuable watch, with the ticket found on Carom.
St. Petersburg date line reports M. Basanoff, who killed Interior Minister Von Plehve on July 28, 1904, died in Zarantul prison. Officially confirmed today. Death attributed to self-inflicted actions while imprisoned.

Starkweather North Dakota December 19 plans for a large rabbit hunt with Starkweather Garske and Newville residents were set for a meeting tonight to form sides. The losing side would pay for a banquet to the winning side. The hunt covers the eastern region and thousands may be secured.
Detroit reports fewer Great Lakes disasters in the year just closed. The worst event was the sinking of the Pere Marquette ferry No. 1 Ludington with multiple fatalities. The W. C. Mardland wreck on Eagle reef caused $240,000 loss and $40,000 cargo. Fire incidents added to the toll, with total losses around $1,600.
Special agents of the customs service seized 1000 pounds of smuggled opium in a raid on Chinese dens in Portland Oregon. The operation part of a treasury campaign led by Chief Wilkie. Over a ton of opium has been confiscated in raids over the past two weeks.

Chicago reports a murder at a boardinghouse where Nathan B Hyde, a 76 year old former U S district judge, was beaten to death with a crowbar while dictating a letter to the mayor. Authorities ask Cincinnati St Louis and Louisville police to help locate Matthias Emil, a Mexican cornet player believed to have knowledge of the crime as motive appears to be robbery. Detective notes say Emil was seen near Hyde's door before discovery.

Jefferson City Missouri December 1 The Missouri supreme court today sentenced Mort Holman to hang in Pike county for an attack on a woman and Eugene Tucker to hang in Greene county for murder. Both executions set for January 26, 1911.
Dr. George Edgar Vincent of the University of Chicago faculty of arts and sciences was elected today as president of the Minnesota State University in St. Paul. The selection follows a formal vote by the university’s governing body and sets Vincent to lead the institution.

They were part of a School of Physical Education drill and none were injured. Damages estimated at $100,000 mainly to the Derby Desk Co and O W Richardson Carpet Rug Co with cross electric wires suspected as the cause.

Washington December 13 Senator Cummins Iowa argued for amending rules to permit changing individual schedules of the Payne Aldrich tariff law without reopening the entire tariff. He noted many duties are excessive and urged swift congressional action while denying a general tariff discussion. Aldrich Lodge Carter interrupted as the debate continued with other senators weighing the change.
Washington, Dec 13 In a miniature race riot in the business section this afternoon a remark by a negro street car conductor named Gry sparked violence. L L Armstrong was struck on the head with an iron bar and is seriously injured while Charles Gans a streetcar employee was badly beaten. Armstrong was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Several negroes were arrested. The LeBtlaine trial of Les Case to jury proceeded with District Attorney Higgins finishing arguments and Judge Bond beginning his charge to the jury.
Two sisters aged 17 and 18 known locally were arrested on charges of resorting to rooms for immoral purposes. In police court the older sister received a sentence of sixteen months in jail with hard labor and a $20 fine she could not pay. the younger sister was bound over to district court with reform school on conditional terms. Both initially planned to plead not guilty but changed to guilty, with witnesses subpoenaed for a preliminary hearing. The father attempted to appeal after sentencing, but the court refused to consider it.
