German representatives gave evasive replies during armistice talks and rejected the conditions offered as unacceptable. They claimed no authority to decide on a general peace plan, signaling indecision and possible stalling in the negotiations.
Based on reports from Petrograd and London, representatives of Germany Austria Hungary Turkey and Bulgaria met Russian emissaries at Brest Litovsk to discuss an armistice. Central powers stated they could negotiate only armistice terms while signaling strategic positions on Eastern Front and troop movements. Russia demanded a comprehensive peace on all fronts and a plan acceptable to all belligerents, but the talks proceeded amid evasive replies and questions over who may negotiate and on what terms.
A well known farmer fell victim to a runaway accident in the Valley area. The incident occurred near Bakke’s Drive, 115 North Avenue, with family and local residents mourning his death and planning funeral arrangements.
In Bismarck North Dakota on December 6 Associated Press reports Tom Hall entered a not guilty plea in district court after the conclusion of the Pankow murder trial. The proceedings followed the earlier trial and Hall maintained his innocence throughout.
Mischa Elman the celebrated Russian violinist told reporters in transit to Grand Forks that Bolshevik rule in Russia will be short lived. He warned the awakened people will sweep them from power and that the Bolsheviki will hamper information flow to and from Russia, aiding Germany. Washington reports that the foreign affairs committee approved a war declaration against Austria Hungary. The House planned to take up and pass the resolution the next day, pending President Wilson's support and possible inclusion of other allies.
Samuel Clark and Clarence Crockard publishers of Jim Jam Jems pleaded guilty before Judge Wade in Fargo's federal court. They admitted sending a publication by express across state lines containing an obscene object. Clark was fined 2,000 and Crockard 1,000. actions dismissed. Indicted by a federal grand jury last July.
Montreal reports place the Halifax explosion death toll around 1200 as officials warn the figure is unofficial. Later dispatches say the city’s destruction resulted from the blast of a French ammunition ship, not an American vessel, allegedly rammed by a Norwegian foodship.
