Secretary of the Treasury Shaw issues an open letter to all banks urging them to exchange $10 silver certificates for smaller denominations to relieve currency strain. The note notes about $15,000,000 in $10 notes and calls for voluntary action by state and national institutions.
In Crookston Minnesota a head on crash two miles from town at 6 am killed fireman D B Johnson and injured conductor Deving engineer Cride and others. Weather blamed blizzard with crew disoriented by cold. Fireman Johnson’s body remained under the engine as several passengers and crew suffered severe cold exposure.
In Chambersburg Pennsylvania on December 6 three men were killed and another fatally injured when an elevator fell in the Geyser Manufacturing Co shops. Eleven workers were nearby with a five ton milling machine and a heavy truck when a cable parted dropping them twenty five feet into a pit. George Freeman John Torson and Lar Ar Pappian died. Nicholas Benson was fatally injured and all injured were taken to a local hospital. In Kent Minnesota this December an 11 year old boy accidentally killed his younger brother John with a discharged .22 caliber rifle. The event left the surviving family in shock and the case noted as a tragic accident.
