First Montana anti pass law convictions in federal court
In Helena on August 8 6 The first Montana convictions for violating the anti pass law were secured in federal court. Gertie Williams of Havre was fined 100 dollars and 8 6 Watts of Havre was fined 200 dollars. The woman paid her fine but Watts went to jail. Watts worked as a brakeman for the Great Northern and obtained a pass eastward from officials for Mrs 8 G Watts and gave it to Gertie Williams. It was learned the woman was not Watts wife and both were arrested for violating the interstate commerce law. They were indicted separately and then jointly on a conspiracy charge.
