A county fair in Van Buren County plans an agricultural exhibit on October 10 with no racing or vaudeville attractions due to a pending race track build. Attendance is expected to be local as the event tests the appeal of a traditional pumpkin show amid limited publicity.

Prof. Fred Cram from Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls led tests in Jefferson county rural schools with County Superintendent Miss June Chichester. About 100 rural teachers attended a final study center at the high school. Eulalia Turner spoke on primary work. Demonstrations featured arithmetic by Mazie Messer Harold Kafka Alberta Dougherty and Robert Dougherty. Reading by Audubon Crew George Stever and Dorsey Thomas. Similar tests are being given across the state.
James M Gregg John Schaefer Elliott P Taylor Moses Kiger James Fry Henry Stewart and many local women attended the national Grand Army of the Republic convention and allied orders in Des Moines this week.
Final preparations are underway for the Fairfield Fall Frolic with Wednesday and Thursday night programs at Chautauqua park. Sponsors expect a huge turnout aided by wide advertising across nearby towns and a two hour Cameo Girl Follies show with nearly 200 cast members, benefiting the American Legion.
Mrs. J E Prince recounts the Jefferson County Farm Tour led by County Agent Moser on September 23. The group visited farms near town including Roth, Danielson, Manning, Gearhart, Hague Girton for a picnic under a shade tree, then Wheatley for Duroc hogs and Poland Chinas with talks by Prof Quaife.
About fifty relatives and store staff surprised merchant Ray Maxwell at his home for his birthday. Baskets of food and a large dining table filled the room while a huge cake served as a birthday reminder. Mr and Mrs E Anderson attended celebrating their wedding anniversary, making the night a double celebration.
