Iowa Democrats Convene in Sioux City Nomination Meeting
The Iowa Democratic convention meets in Sioux City on September 18 1889 at 9 30 A M to nominate candidates for governor lieutenant governor supreme court vacancies and full term superintendent of public instruction and one railroad commissioner. Delegates are allocated 2 per county plus one for each 300 votes and fraction over 100 cast for Grover Cleveland in 1888. Counties listed include Des Moines Louisa Henry Jefferson Washington and others. The committee recommends county committees be organized at the convention and that counties may nominate county officers if practicable. She suffered typhoid in childhood, lost sight in one eye, mother died eight years earlier, kept house for father and brother, later consumption emerged in June 1888 and died August 27 1888 after conversion and religious comfort.
