Illinois Wisconsin Minnesota Michigan Wisconsin Iowa Indiana ranked first to seventh. The girls earned honorable mention and were invited by the American Jersey Cattle club for next year. John W. Wheatley’s Duroc Jersey hog sale at his farm near Fairfield sold 44 head at an average of 27.50. The top price for a male Hog reached 70 dollars and gilts brought 32 dollars each. All animals were young stock.

Burlington railroad plans a large locomotive and car repair complex in Denver costing 2 000 000 000 dollars. William Miller faced a preliminary hearing before Justice Garmoe after the shooting of William Ott at Linby on October 10. Ott was wounded in the head and neck. Miller was bound over to await grand jury action with a $1000 bond.
A Muscatine man attempted to sell bootleg liquor to City Marshal Harry Edwards. He was arrested, brought before Squire D. C. Kyle, and fined $190 plus costs for transporting intoxicating liquor. The suspect identified as Fre Randall of Muscatine Washington Journal.
Members of the Chas. Van Nostrand post, Spanish-American war veterans, held their regular quarterly meeting at the American Legion rooms last Monday evening. George McCumber of Des Moines spent Sunday visiting friends here.
