Berger Convicted in Iowa Bank Swindle Case

Henry Parker known as Barton and others, convicted of swindling the Iowa State Bank out of 1500. He received a seventeen year sentence at Ft. Madison after indictments in Greenfield for forged deeds and stealing a Martin signature. Pinkerton notes say a group of five operated a multi state land fraud ring over five to six years.

Jefferson county board actions November 13 1900 session

The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors meets with all members present. They canvass the November 6 1900 election results, address quit claim deed for John J Cummings, cancel a 75 mortgage, review Air Pressure Water System issues at the poor farm, authorize swamp land selections, grant a cattle-way under bridge 8, and plan to recover old B M railroad bonds. Special orders include tax abatements for John MelIntire and Catherine Barnes and per diem, mileage, and a 700 salary for the county attorney in 1901. Minutes read, approved, adjourned sine die.
