Escaped convict captured after chase near Albia
Alfred Valentine, a Fort Madison escapee, was tracked by Sheriff Neibert and Deputy Carter as he moved from New London toward Albia. After several shots and a failed horse escape, Valentine was captured in the O. H. Ogden fields and jailed, headed back to Fort Madison. He had been previously imprisoned for horse stealing and held in a trusted status at Fort Madison.

Mrs John Dexter dies after brief illness at her East Hempstead street home. She had lived most of her life in Fairfield and is survived by husband and three children Mrs Frank Cornell William Dexter and Miss Cora Dexter. Funeral arrangements not yet announced but expected Thursday.
