Thirty-eight head of purebred Duroc Jerseys averaged 34.07 at C. J. Kessey’s sale one half mile north of Fairfield on November 4. Top price 125 paid by J. W. McCaffee Iowa Falls for a sow. Most hogs sold to local breeders with some to Missouri and distant Iowa. All payments were cash. A January sale of pure bred sows planned.
Gobble and Heer have installed five new glass clothing cases, 54 inches high and wide, dust proof and sturdy. Each case holds 100 suits, with all contents visible to customers and salesmen, allowing a suit to be selected without disturbing others.
Fairfield high school football shut out Washington 34 to 0 at Thedeal Field on Armistice Day. The win, described as the biggest and most important of the year, brought great elation despite a very muddy field.

E. D. Bell of Keosauqua died shortly before seven this morning Friday November 11 from heart failure due to old age. He was 86 or 87 and a long time county pioneer born in Kentucky. His parents moved to Van Buren county in 1837 and he spent most of his life there. His father settled on the McGrew farm north of Keosauqua and Bell still owned a farm near Mt. Zion at his death.
The board of supervisors deemed the price too high and did not let the contract for road work south from the city to the Van Buren county line. Seven bidders were considered, with the lowest dirt moving bid at 28 cents per yard and concrete tiling bids also rejected as too high.
An advertisement promotes sweaters at a price of 10.98 dollars highlighting discounts and value. The copy markets lower costs with the claim we can sweat for less than that price.
Governor N E Kendall proclaims November 24 1921 Thanksgiving Day in Iowa. Des Moines reports the Iowa State Teachers association calls for legislation to require attendance through age 18. The three day convention drew about 7500 attendees and pledged 15000 for annuities for long serving teachers, with a bill planned for the next general assembly.
City Councilman George Horne and Mrs Horne left Monday for California to spend the winter there. They expect to remain throughout the season.
Libertyville approved a $3,000 bond plan for a municipal building and city lighting. In today’s special election the lights proposal passed 118 to 55 with two ballots invalid. Voters totaled 175. 82 women and 93 men cast ballots.
Leaders and dignitaries from the United States and abroad are slated to attend the International Live Stock Exposition at Union Stock Yards Chicago from November 26 to December 3. Ambassadors from several nations including Canada Mexico and South American delegates will join ministers of agriculture and foreign officials to view cattle swine and sheep breeding progress and meat supply initiatives. Secretary Wallace will spend several days at the exposition meeting with live stock growers and discussing agricultural policy since the era of Jerry Rusk.
Des Moines reports Iowa State Teachers association resolution calls for drafting a code of ethics to define proper conduct by teachers outside school hours. The measure aims to improve relations with boards and communities and establish firm standards for teacher behavior and accountability.
