Local contractors warn that building construction faces a serious halt due to shortages of cement and transportation bottlenecks. Buyers must use open stock cars as railways refuse damage liability, raising fears of delays for private and tenant-building projects.
Wilson Reed leads Fairfield Memorial Day events with joint ger of G A R and veterans groups. Parade forms at 2 55 p m with routes along Main Burlington Court Kirkwood and Stone to the cemetery. auto transport requested from Legion members and ex service men.
A fine payment paid to Jack M Phrey in Joeplin Missouri has just been received after a period of delay. The note confirms the settlement of a prior fine.
The Tribune touts higher readership than other local papers and claims advertisers recognize this demand. It pledges to print more pages as long as newspaper paper remains available, ending with the motto It Pays to Tie to the Tribune.
A Tribune visit finds about twenty cars parked along Broadway near the Loudon factory. The vehicles appear to belong to wage earners who work at the plant, though it is not clear if any have chauffeurs or drive their own cars.

Sixty eight students form the 1920 graduating class with thirty boys and thirty eight girls. Rev H Sears Thompson will preach the baccalaureate at the high school. Juniors banquet the Seniors, while exercises occur Thursday evening June 3. Senior play set for May 28 and 29. Class officers include President Booker Smith and Valedictorian Helen McCabe. Class roll lists 68 names including Lorella Baker Gladys Christner Clarence Bailey Madge Craft Carl Bishop Helen Droz and others.
Dr John Timothy Stone renowned author lecturer and Chicago pastor will address Fairfield Community Bible classes on Saturday June 5 in the High School auditorium. Tickets are required due to limited seating with class members receiving tickets and inviting guests and out of town delegations welcome.
The United States Chamber of Commerce board voted unanimously to endorse the Salvation Army Americanism plan. The resolution, the only one before the American Ideals committee, praises Americanization aimed at turning millions of workers into citizens with high civic ideals.
Penn Township hosts a Sunday school convention on Sunday June 6 at Howard Grove church with events from 9 45 am through 4 pm. The program lists supervisors teachers musicians pastors and readers including Mrs Tom Stewart Lela Jones Winona Kyle Verle Simmons Harvey Jones and Rev Le land Spaulding among others. A basket dinner follows the 12 o clock break and a business session leads into afternoon devotional and talks on hindrances and draws of the Sunday school with attendees including O L Hutchins C Sumner McCracken and O C Spaulding.
After fifteen years in the undertaking trade in Fairfield A V Frazey retires and sells to F E Butler who came from West Point Nebraska. Butler is a young man with Chicago experience and two years in the army. Mrs Butler is daughter of Rev Weston. Frazey, who started the firm in 1905, stays in Fairfield.
G R Lowe will present a chalk talk in Yeoman hall at 6 30 PM on Monday May 31 detailing the Neosho Mo cooperative retailing and advertising plan. The model emphasizes the Golden Rule, has spread to twenty Indiana and Illinois counties, and is being pursued by chambers of commerce with sales days and advertising clubs.
