Hiram Heaton died after a fall in a railroad yard pit in Washington causing a broken leg and shock. Survived by a nephew Wilson Heaton and two nieces Mrs Elizabeth Whitney and Miss Abigail Heaton. He was active in Jefferson County Historical Society and Old Settlers Quartet. His funeral at Glasgow followed a service in Fairfield attended by many former pupils and friends. Dr T L James praised Heaton as a devoted historian and generous, outspoken man who loved nature and country life. He will be remembered as a true patriot and peacemaker.

Mrs. Maude Allender, 50, died of heart failure Saturday afternoon at her home two miles east of the city. Husband W C Allender found her after returning from Ottumwa. She leaves a son Calvin Allender of Davenport and daughters Mrs J H Mitchel Fairfield, Mrs John Sours, Mrs Robert Coverdell, Mrs W Hodges Ottumwa, sister Mrs Sadie Allender Fairfield, brother Charles Duncanson Madison Wis. Funeral at 10 30 tomorrow at home. Rev A A Heath of Main Street Methodist officiating. Burial Ottumwa cemetery.
An engine switching on the Rock Island tracks at Depot Street struck the auto carrying Louis Easton and Joe Stever last Monday. The collision badly damaged the car and severely injured both men.

Mrs. George R. Horn, age 64, died at her Fairfield home on May 24 after a lengthy illness. Born Laura Swan in Morning Sun Iowa, she graduated from Parsons College in 1880, taught school, served twice as county superintendent, and married George R. Horn in 1902. She lived in Fairfield since 1917 and was active in church and alma mater affairs. She is survived by her husband and three siblings. Funeral at home Friday at 2:59 PM, Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield. A piano recital at the Moorhead studio Tuesday evening featured Miss Hannah Van Nostrand with her mother Mrs L N Van Nostrand soprano and Mrs Frank Pierson contralto. The program showed varied styles and great versatility, marking one of her first recitals and suggesting a bright future. Vocal numbers by Mrs Van Nostrand and Mrs Pierson were exceptionally fine and well received by a large audience.
The body of Miss Mattie Hochuly died May 18 at her Denver home was moved to Evergreen cemetery for burial last Saturday after a brief funeral. A Fairfield native, she was a daughter of Rev Theo Hochuly, the Episcopalian rector here, and had lived with her sister in recent years. A city cousin and other relatives were noted in the oblong notice.
