Unsuccessful Wiota Bank Robbery and Local Trials
An attempted bank robbery at Wiota failed and the would be robbers were captured at Adair. The Eldora Grand Jury indicted Nathan Rainsharzer for murder in the first degree and he was arraigned by District Attorney Stephens. In Washington Loona, eight hundred kegs of beer were seized from a brewery with no one appearing for the beer and warrants directed destruction of beer and vessels.

A bold burglar cut telegraph lines and forced entry at Charles Ray’s Prospect Avenue home. He terrorized Mrs Ray and her daughters, took cash and jewelry totaling about a thousand dollars, then fled by train to Chicago. Ray, a Chicago-based broker, reported the loss as heavier than first thought.

A fire at the Logan residence in Waterloo New York killed John A Logan and his wife. Mrs Logan was found burned near a second story window. Mr Josan and the youngest child were in his arms in the same story. The eldest daughter is badly burned with slim prospects of recovery. The blaze also destroyed the engine house a rail mill and the Lackawanna Iron company steel mill along with valuable machinery. Estimated loss 250990 with only partial insurance.
