Merchant Smith and the Twelve Gross Grindstones Mystery

An Austin merchant named Smith ordered twelve gross grindstones from a New York firm believing he had written the exact quantity. The firm chartered a schooner with 1,728 grindstones to Galveston. Smith, paying cash on delivery, continued to buy and sell grindstones wholesale for years, undeterred by the error.
