The piece notes that visitors will miss nothing for a full month as preparations stall. Gen Weaver plans a Des Moines school of political economy to train future populists. It warns that party factions may need a statute to encourage attendance.
In 1883 a publican campaign in Iowa City Press proposed A school house on every hill top and no saloon in the valley. In 1803 another motto stated The school house and saloon each has its place. The paper notes a stance favoring modification to these positions.
The Mt. Pleasant Free Press accuses Republican papers of lying about never declaring for prohibition. It cites a 1589 Republican platform plank asserting past party statements on prohibition as settled policy and calls for complete enforcement with no backward step.
The Tribune will print a two column weekly letter during the World Fair continuance. Written by well known correspondents, it promises valuable information and reader interest. The first letter appears in this issue on page four.

Edward Campbell Jr of this city is named a member of the World Agricultural Congress and Advisory Council of the World Congress Auxiliary on Farm Culture and Cereal Industry for the Columbian Exposition in Chicago. He will coordinate letters of introduction for county farmers and promote auxiliary headquarters at the Live Stock pavilion during the fair from June 1 to October 1.

In a Pittsburg Post tribute, Edward Campbell extols J Sterling Morton secretary of agriculture as a noble, courageous leader. Morton is praised for reforming his department, resisting patronage, and guiding policy against the Farmer's Alliance.
The text credits Beggs' Dandelion Bitters as a cure for insomnia and dyspepsia attributed to a disordered stomach. R. H. Hufford is noted as the seller.
The Chicago Tribune reports rumors of lax discipline at Anamosa prison, including alleged store activity inside walls, guards' reduced authority, and favored convicts. It cites Be details on Rainsbergers and Cratton, inside store operations run by Gilbreath and Madden, and improper accounting. governor likely to order an investigation.
The payroll shows Warden Madden and relatives receiving salaries without proper approval. Warden Madden earns 2000 dollars annually, son Charles Madden 1000, and Murray Madden about 600 as guard. A brother in law and another guard son each earn 600. A confidant defends such staffing as likely temporary.
